How should I store my craft supplies?
Crafting can become a messy affair. The many different materials and items necessary to make all the things you want to make can hinder the actual process of making them! Here are a few tips and ways you can organize and store your craft supplies.
Dedicate a room to crafting – If this is possible for you, it can be quite beneficial. This allows you the space needed to give everything a home. You can put a craft table, shelves, and storage bins all in one place. You can have a whole space just for your crafting needs. This gives you so many options! If you are able to do this, go through and sort all of your supplies before moving them to their new home. This will make the process a lot easier because you wont clutter up the new room as soon as you get things in there. You can also have a ‘tool wall’ where you hang all of your crafting tools up, such as scissors and hole punches. This prevents floor space from being unnecessarily occupied.
Invest in storage containers – This may seem obvious, but it is looked over quite often. Get small drawer towers for bits and bobs. Box up all the beads and buttons in one place. Get a bin just for material and ribbon. Have a separate drawer tower for all your sewing supplies. This is the most essential part of having an easy time when you craft. Knowing where your necessities are and having them easily accessible makes the whole process more enjoyable.
Have separate areas for different crafts – It is hard to organize when all of your crating supplies are on one table. If you are able to have a whole room for crafting, this is the way to do it! Have different tables or areas for different crafts. This way you can have what you need for that craft out and visible and in a good, reachable, spot when you need it. This allows you to tailor your work space to that craft and its supplies. Have a large flat table for sewing, with the sewing machine on it. You can then place a drawer tower next to it full of all the sewing materials you may need. This prevents ‘cross contamination’ of your crafts.
Have a craft closet- If it is not possible to have an entire room for crafting, try to dedicate just a closet to all of your supplies. This will require smaller containers and better organizational skills, but it can be well worth the sanity if you can get it right. Here are some smaller containers you could use for closet organization.
Have fun with it – You are artsy and creative, get resourceful and make something or somewhere you can store your supplies in! Decorate an old dresser or shelf and use your imagination!
